Magpies star set to miss again

- Ryan Rosendale

Glenorchy is likely to be without playing-coach Josh Arnold for a second-straight week with the Magpies veteran not expected to suit up against North Launceston on Saturday.

The former TSL games recorder holder was a late out of the Magpies’ 88-point loss to Lauderdale last week with assistant coach Daniel Muir confirming Arnold was unlikely to return for the trip to UTAS Stadium.

“He hurt his calf (before the game) so I dare say he might miss again this week,” Muir said. “We have that short turnaround (with Anzac Day) but we will assess it tonight (Thursday) and make a decision.”

While the Magpies are likely to be without Arnold, it’s better news for young gun Blake Waight with the talented defender set to return after going down with an ankle injury in the drought-breaking win over North Hobart two weeks ago.

Waight will return alongside the likely inclusions of Luke Nicholson and Kobey Phillips, but Muir confirmed both Daniel Joseph and Cam Duffy won’t be available for selection.

“With ‘DJ’ (Joseph) it is pretty well mapped out when he is going to come and go and with Duffy it’s more a week-to-week prospect given he coaches the (Claremont) women’s side,” Muir said. “We’ve expressed to the group and they know that when those guys are available they will play because we know the caliber of those players and we need them in our side to be able to progress and build that professional environment because guys will learn from that, so whenever they can play, they will play.”

Muir also confirmed he would play as required, admitting his older body likely wouldn’t allow him to play a full season.
