With both sides anchored to the bottom half of the division 2 ladder, Port Women and Huonville Lions’ round 3 clash shapes as an opportunity for both to create some early season momentum.

The two cross-town rivals are set to go to battle at 4.30pm on Saturday with Port looking to secure a second straight win while the Lions will be doing everything to first of 2024.

After going down by 90 points to New Norfolk in round 1, Port’s Sammy Kluga said Saturday’s match presented an opportunity to play the style of game they had implemented at training following two lopsided results.

“We haven’t really had an opportunity to play the style of footy we have been training for but we know that the battle of notch up their the Huon is usually one that is a bit of a better matchup,” Kluga said.

“We have a lot of girls in their first year of footy so we have used the pre-season to gel as a team and really take it back to basics and find our style of footy. We are getting there but it’s looking promising ahead of this week.”

Lions’ player Anna Stanway said that while her side had started the season on the wrong side of two defeats they were confident of producing better footy on Saturday.

“We’ve had two really tough games,” Stanway said.

In other division 2 matches, Hutchins face Claremont, St Virgils host University, Dodges Ferry play South East Suns and New Norfolk and Brighton square off.

Div 1 games see Clarence versus Glenorchy and Lauderdale versus Kingborough.
