Brighton secures strong win over Sorell

- Ryan Rosendale

Brighton has shot into second place on the SFL ladder with the Robins dominating the second half over Sorell enough to see them finish 41-point winners on Anzac Day.

Clashing in the SFL’s first officially recognised Anzac Day fixture, the visitors held the Eagles to just one goal after halftime, with five of their own after the long break enough to secure a win.

The home side got off to a flyer, controlling play for the opening stages of the quarter but the Robins did enough to be within striking distance at the first-break.

Down by just seven points, Brighton scored four goals to one in the second in a sign of things to come for the rest of the game.

Forward Max Lamb 12.13 (85) to 6.8 (44) (three goals) continued his stellar start to the season, while Caleb Triffett also snagged three for Brighton.

Midfielder Darcy Gardner once again controlled play inside for the victors with Jacob Young, Fletcher Salter and Cody Morgan also among the best.

Bodhi Kingston was named best for Sorell.

After previously knocking off Hobart and New Norfolk to start 2024, the win was an important one for the Robins who will likely be pushing for a finals spot against the Eagles come the pointy end of the season.

Round 4 of the SFL will continue on Saturday with Hobart to meet New Norfolk at Boyer Oval, Huonville Lions to host Dodges Ferry at home and Cygnet facing Claremont at Abbotsfield Park.

Lindisfarne has the bye.
