TAKING ON THE TIROL TRAILS

whether you like a peaceful riverside cycle or an adrenalin-fuelled downhill blast, it's easy to see why this austrian region is proving so popular

-

When it comes to two wheels, Tirol has something for everyone. Over 920km of cycle paths and scenic roadways lure families and road bikers through picturesque valleys and rolling Alpine pastures, while 500 mountain peaks, some rising more than 3,000 metres, give even the most adventurous mountain biker plenty to take on.

If you’d prefer an easier ride, highend electric-assist mountain bikes will allow you to enjoy the breathtaking views without breaking into a sweat – or save your legs completely and jump aboard one of the no-hassle shuttle bus services. Along the way, you’ll find plenty of wonderful places to refuel, sampling some typical Tirolean hospitality and culinary delights. Riding the Zillertal Valley With crystal clear air, lush green meadows and majestic alpine ridges, this is one of Tirol’s most stunning regions, and the perfect place to challenge thrill-hungry mountain bikers. A beautiful, wide glacial valley begins gently in the small town of Mayrhofen, before rising up to reach the mountain village of Hintertux which sits at a lofty 3,250 metres above sea level.

There are single track trails to suit all abilities here. Take on the mixed terrain, rooty sections and fast descents of ‘Hells Ride’ and ‘Ascension’, check out the ‘RideAble Project’, a trail which takes you from Wiesenalm down 730 metres into the valley below, or follow the steep and winding climb up to Wanglalm Alpine Pasture – it’s tough going but worth it for the spectacular views of Hintertux Glacier.
