Vaude Primasoft jacket £125

-

Vaude have looked at rider requirements and split their Primasoft jacket into three targeted areas. The chest and shoulders combine PrimaLoft insulation with a windproof and waterproof membrane that eliminates windchill and minimises heat loss. Lower down the front, the PrimaLoft is done away with but the wind and waterproofing is retained, while the back and underarms are left membrane free for maximum stretch and breathability.

This approach aims to ensure that your vital organs and the parts of your body most exposed to the wind are kept warm without the jacket becoming too hot, bulky or restrictive – and it works as intended. Vaude’s ‘Eco Finish’ waterproofing sheds rain and spray in all but the heaviest downpours, and the two mesh-lined chest pockets double up as vents should things get too warm, which on milder days they can – and quite quickly. Adding some pit vents would make the jacket more suited to varying conditions.

Articulated raglan sleeves make for a comfy fit, and the length is spot on. We found the simple elasticated cuffs tight enough without being uncomfortable, but the lack of adjustability may not suit those with skinny or fat wrists. A simple drawcord at the waist prevents drafts creeping in. Matt www.vaude.com
