PEAK
Not all peaks are equal. Want more shelter from the sun’s rays or heavy rain? Then choose a longer peak. Want to look less like a duck? Choose a shorter peak. Look for vertical adjustment too, especially if you’re planning to wear goggles or want an uninterrupted eyeline on climbs.
RETENTION SYSTEM
Most helmet brands have their own retention system, although they all rely on tightening a band of plastic around your head. Systems that sit lower in the helmet tend to o er a more secure fit.
PADDING
This usually consists of shaped (synthetic) sponge pads attached to the inside of the liner, often with antibacterial properties. Thicker pads don’t necessarily o er more comfort – it’s the extent of the coverage that matters.
CHIN STRAP
A strap to ensure your helmet doesn’t lift o your head in a crash. Those with bridgestyle under-ear connectors often don’t o er any fore/ aft adjustability.
