WINNER ! THAT’S GOTTA HURT

Stephen Newland from Northumberland was in Kielder Forest, practising for an upcoming race, when things went a bit wrong. “I was on the ‘Forest Dive’ black run,” he says.“I hopped a stump to take out a corner but was carrying a wee bit of speed and slid o .I jumped back up to get on my bike, only to fall straight over. Then it hit me – pain from hell. I looked down to see my foot the wrong way around. There was no phone signal so I had to get back to the castle myself. It took everything I had to do it. Then a very nice lady called for help, I was airlifted to hospital by the Great North Air Ambulance and operated on to save my foot. A top job by all involved!”
