Archer Components’ new D1x wireless electronic shifter is programmable to work with any rear mech, so it can be used with any single-ring drivetrain from any brand. To achieve this flexibility, it’s tuned through an app on your smartphone. A single charge is reported to deliver thousands of shifts, although this is dependent on the mech’s spring tension (clutch derailleurs have a much higher spring rate). The shifter communicates with a small rectangular box attached to the underside of the driveside chainstay via Velcro straps. This has a standard shift cable and housing protruding out the back, which are connected to the mech. The Santa Cruzbased company’s system is claimed to weigh 125g and will cost US$350 when it goes on sale this summer.
