The Tallboy has an infectious feel that makes you want to push it fast on a wide range of terrain. There are no crazy angles or elongated tubes, so every tester felt immediately at home. The ‘VPP’ suspension is effective at transferring power to the rear wheel and has just enough feedback without feeling harsh or uncontrolled. While Santa Cruz can’t compete on spec, the parts all do their job well enough. The Fox Rhythm 34 fork continues to impress, and the Maxxis Minion tyre boosts confidence up front. If it were better value, the Tallboy would be right up there. We’d still recommend it if you can take the hit.
