Specialized Zee Cage II and EMT tool £14 (cage), £40 (tool)

This bottle cage and multi-tool form part of Specialized’s SWAT (Storage, Water, Air, Tools) range, and have proven incredibly handy out on the trail. The reasonably-priced Zee Cage II is a side-entry number, which is a big plus on more compact frame designs. It’s also one of the most secure we’ve used, ensuring that we didn’t drop a single bottle. There are left and right-entry options to choose from, so make sure you know which one you want before buying. The hole at the base of cage allows you to fix the carrier for the compact but pricey EMT tool in place. This then slides in through a small hinged door, which shuts with a confidence-inspiring click. To keep the tool compact (it’s just 60x23mm), Specialized have only included the bare minimum to help with trailside scrapes. That means you get a small flat-headed screwdriver, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8mm Allen keys, and a T25 Torx key, all made from hardened CRV steel. The anti-rust coating has done its job on our sample – after a long winter sat on the bike, the tool bits still look good as new. They’re accurately sized too and have fitted securely into all the bolt heads we’ve tried them on. At just 60mm long, you’re not going to get masses of leverage from the EMT, though it’ll do the job well enough until you’re able to carry out a proper fix. While this set-up is still relatively compact, the EMT tool does add an extra 22mm to the base of the cage, so it won’t fit on every bike. Rob
