CAPTURING THE MOMENT

-

Inspired by a cloud inversion he’d seen in a Dan Atherton video, when Sam Taylor was tasked to shoot a set of photos for Calibre, he headed straight for one of Snowdonia’s biggest peaks, hoping to capture the same atmosphere. He explains the work that went into getting this killer shot.

“When Laurie Arthur, filmmaker Gee Milner and I checked the weather and saw a weekend of almost guaranteed warm sun forecast, we knew we had to take advantage. We decided to camp on the summit so we’d be in place for sunrise, but as we climbed the sun was setting and we were greeted with a stunning cloud inversion over the Mawddach Estuary, which stretches way out to the sea.

“Gee and I ran ahead to scope for angles and we shouted back to Laurie to hurry up. He arrived with the bike, sweating like mad, just in time for me to fire o some shots before the sun disappeared below the horizon.

“The wind picked up overnight and the mist in the valleys had cleared by the time we got up for sunrise, but we’d bagged some of the best sunset shots of our lives the evening before so we couldn’t complain!”
