YETI F.R.O.
John Parker’s first bike was the uncompromisingly-named For Racing Only, which used a 4130 steel tubeset with computer-bent (super-rare back then) single-piece rear stays borrowed from BMX design. Add a bombproof straight-gauge, straight-legged fork, top tube cable routing and a custom-painted stem, and it wasn’t light but it was seriously tough, and became an instant hit with take-no-prisoners racers and radical rippers alike. Chopped up FRO frames also formed the basis for the carbon/alloy hybrid C-26, which some collectors are still making fakes of after most of the originals came unglued. As well as instantly recognisable bikes, Yeti have had a string of legendary team riders, from John Tomac, Juliana Furtado, Missy Giove and Miles Rockwell to Jared Graves, Aaron Gwin and Richie Rude.
