Specialized Slaughter GRID 2Bliss Ready £40
The Slaughter is Specialized’s semi-slick option. Its ‘GRIPTON’ compound isn’t tacky to the touch but grips OK on smooth and dusty surfaces. Although the ‘GRID’ casing is noticeably sturdier than the standard 60TPI carcass, it wasn’t thick enough to prevent a pinch puncture on our second run. There’s no tougher option, so we’d recommend a ‘Double Down’ Maxxis Minion SS or ‘Super Gravity’ Schwalbe Rock Razor if puncture protection is your priority. As with the other semi-slick tyres here, the fast-rolling central tread significantly compromises straight-line braking traction. That said, if you’re happy sliding around on your tyre edges, from Scandi flick to inside line, then you’ll have a lot of fun. The Slaughter inflated tubeless on our first attempt, without the help of any lubricant. www.specialized.com
