WTB Trail Boss TCS Tough/High Grip £46.99
WTB’s ‘Tough’ casing is double the thickness of their ‘Light’ carcass. It holds its shape well when fitted to the rim, but can take longer to set up tubeless – we required a couple of attempts with an Airshot inflator and some lubricant. The Trail Boss has a much higher volume than its 2.25in label would suggest – it’s comparable in size to some 2.35in tyres on test. Braking traction is surprisingly good, as its large array of small, squareedged knobs bite into the dirt. Cornering is different than with the semi-slick tyres on test, with the rounded profile and deeper, widerspaced tread offering much more consistency across a range of lean angles. It doesn’t hook up as well as tyres with large side knobs, but tracks turns without too many surprises, assuming you’re OK with a bit of drifting. www.hotlines-uk.com
