Topeak’s Hexus X is one of the most comprehensive multi-tools we’ve come across and well-priced too. On top of the usual Allen keys (2-8mm), spoke keys and chain tool, you get three Torx wrenches, two tyre levers, a chain hook and a valve-core remover. The only time it let us down was when we needed to tighten a helmet peak and the Phillips screwdriver (there’s no flat-head) was too sharply pointed to engage with the shallow grooves on the bolt head. Most of the tools are a reasonable length, though the stubby 2.5mm Allen and T30 Torx can make it fiddly to access awkwardly-positioned bolts. We’d also prefer it if the 8mm Allen and T15 and T25 Torxs were full-length tools, not slip-on bits. With so many functions, the tool is inevitably a bit heavy (171g) and bulky to sling in your pocket too. These are small niggles though, and if you want a multi-tool that’s well made, comfy to use and has enough functions to get you out of almost all trailside fixes, it’s well worth a look.
