POC Coron Air Carbon SPIN full-face helmet £410
The Coron Air Carbon is POC’s take on the new breed of full-face helmet, which can be worn on all-day enduro missions or for tackling full-on DH runs. While its proportions make it look more like a motocross lid than a typical MTB full-face, at 1,103g it’s competitive on the scales when compared to other high-end carbon options. Effective ventilation channels and a chin guard that’s set far away from your face prevent you overheating when you’re working hard and keep breathing comfy. Although it can’t compare with an open-face helmet, it feels airier and less stuffy than a lot of other full-faces. The thick padding is comfy and easy to whip out when it needs washing. It also comes with additional custom-fit pads to fine tune the size – though, if possible, try before you buy, because we’d normally wear a small lid but found the medium fitted well. While the fit is quite snug, there’s plenty of room around your ears, which bolsters comfort that bit more. The Coron features POC’s ‘SPIN’ system, designed to deal with angled impacts, and a breakaway peak. While this isn’t adjustable, it’s set at a good angle and stayed out of our line of sight. We like the simple buckled closure too. Luke www.2pure.co.uk
Nice features and well-thought-out design, but pricey – and be careful with the sizing
