Tough, weather and impact-protective, walkable yet still efficient to pedal in, the Terraduro Mids are superb heavy-duty boots if you can afford them. The Vibram sole has just enough tread for grip in mud without affecting easy pedal entry/exit. They hike OK too, but pedalling hard is where they shine, thanks to the heavy-duty shank inside the sole. There’s a toe bumper for rock kicking, and a high inside collar for crank protection (at the expense of chainstay paint). Early sole peel issues seem to have been resolved too, but the shoes are rather heavy. Laces under the flap give accurate tension on an already snug and supportive fit. Water-sealed cleat slots, a neoprene collar and the small size of the perforations in the upper make them wearable deep into winter too, justifying the high cost. www.zyrofisher.co.uk
