Shimano MT700 £109.99
Shimano started the whole clipless revolution with their SPD (Shimano Pedalling Dynamics) pedal and shoe combo in 1990 and they’ve now got options to suit everyone. These good-looking, top-value ‘off-road touring’ shoes are great for comfortable cruising and extended hike-a-biking. There’s enough tread depth for secure grip in all conditions, while the sloped cleat cutout with side platforms gives easy entry/exit without compromising support. The half-shank sole is flexible for extended hiking. While the upper is light, roomy and breezy, it still cinches up securely via the single Boa dial. This is easy to tighten on the fly too, so while Shimano rate the MT700s softer than the AM9s, they don’t feel flaccid under power unless tested alongside some conspicuously stiff shoes. They’re great value too. www.madison.co.uk
