Route summary A wiggly little ride that seeks out some of the more technical descents in this lovely part of the Peak District Start/ inish Layby or pub car park off the A53, near Flash (grid ref SK 032/679, postcode SK17 0TF) 1

Head down the road, away from the A53. Keep right at the fork and ahead at the o set crossroads (with ‘no lorries’ signs to the right and left). Shortly after an entrance/drive on the right, turn left down a tarmac bridleway, which becomes rough and narrow.

Turn right on the road, then immediatel­y fork left. Go right at the next fork and keep right to join a bridleway. After a technical descent, cross the river and climb steeply. Follow this track through Booth Farm, then turn right on a bridleway.

Head downhill, keeping right at the fork. Climb to a road and follow it right, up a steep hill. After 200m, go left up an even steeper track. Keep ahead on this until you reach a wide road T-junction.

Go left on the road, then immediatel­y right on a rough track, up to another road. Follow this left, to a T-junction. Turn left onto the B-road and follow it over the brow of the hill. Just past a layby on the right, go left down a wide track. 5

Turn right on the road at the bottom, then immediatel­y left. Keep ahead/left to join a technical descent to Hollinsclo­ugh. Go straight over the grass triangle and past the school. Exit the village and then bear o left, over a cattle grid, by an empty stone building.

Follow this track, forking right and then continuing ahead, until you reach a road at the end. Turn sharp left on this, up past Dowall Hall Farm. Eventually you’ll cross a cattle grid and reach a junction where the road flattens out. Keep ahead/right here.

Keep ahead/left at the next junction. After 1km, just past a cattle grid, turn left onto a track, then immediatel­y fork right, down towards the farm. Just before you reach it, turn right, on the grass. Continue up and around the hillside, then follow the track left, across the stream. Climb to the road and go left on it.

Go left at the fork and follow the road to a lone house (with post box and phone box). Turn right on a track just after it. Head downhill/left on the road at the bottom. After a steep 1km climb, go right at the T-junction, back to the start.
