Giro Chronicle MIPS £109.99

-

Built around brain-saving MIPS technology, the Chronicle has a deep-sitting shape to offer as much protection as possible and keep it stable over rough terrain. In fact, the fit is so secure that the chin strap felt surplus to requirements. The cradle is adjusted using Giro’s Roc Loc 5 system, which combines a Boa-style indexed wheel with a tabbed vertical adjuster, and gave enough tweaking potential to keep our testers happy. We experienced no hotspots.

The Chronicle works well with glasses and goggles, with more than enough space under the front to fit even the biggest eyewear. If you want to wear exceptionally large goggles, adjusting the cradle into a shallower position will make room for them. The peak can be moved up far enough to park a pair of goggles on the front of the lid, too. With only 14 vents, the Giro helmet does suffer from heat build-up. While there is internal channelling, the openings in the shell are small and far apart. The Coolmax padding is comfortable and abundant, wicking sweat well. However, once it becomes saturated, dripping does occur. The rim’s full circumference has exposed EPS that’s prone to damage with careless handling; at this price, we’d have liked to have seen the outer shell extended to protect the lid, as on the pricier Montaro. ww.zyrofisher.co.uk
