Inverdruie, Cairngorms, Scotland

Distance 28.8km (18.9 miles) Climbing 460m (1,509ft) Time 2hrs to 4hrs

-

Route summary A fairly long and remote ride for an ‘easy’ route, and it includes some stream crossings too, but there’s nothing very technical or hilly and you can cut it short if needed

Start/ inish Inverdruie car park (grid ref NH 901/109, postcode PH22 1QH)

1

Exit the car park and go east on the B970 for 1.6km, to Coylumbridge. Turn right (south) beside, and up to, the side of the caravan park and campsite. Follow the sign to Braemar, along the Lairig Ghru trail, but keep right (leaving the LG trail), following ‘Glen Einich’, through some gates to a track crossing. 2

Keep straight ahead past a gate and carry on through the forest, to a fork by a ford, where you should keep left. Follow alongside the river Am Beanaidh, with some interesting water crossings along the way (the ford with Beanaidh Bheag may be easier to walk, rather than ride). 3

Some more climbing brings great views of the loch and a good descent to the shore. After having a rest (dip!) and an explore, turn around and head back the way you came. It’s mostly downhill now (and probably wind-assisted), back to the track crossing. Turn left to Loch an Eilein on a track you haven’t been along before.

4

Bear to the right-hand side of the loch and, just past the end, by the car park, turn right o the road. After 1km, bear right onto a singletrack trail and follow this through the woods, then make a left at the track crossing and head back to Inverdruie car park to finish.
