BUILT TO LAP UP THE LAPS
Podium-bagging Atherton AM.200M downhill bike goes on sale
NEED TO KNOW
Setting up their own bike brand – and particularly an innovative one aimed at the top end of the market – was a gamble for the all-conquering Atherton siblings, but it seems to be paying off. This year, their race team have racked up three World Cup top-five finishes, a European Champs title (Andreas Kolb) and Crankworx Innsbruck DH win (Charlie Hatton), plus Rachel Atherton only just missed the podium on her return to competition. This is the bike behind that success – now available to the public.
As with all the Atherton bikes, the AM.200M is constructed in Wales from custom-made carbon fibre tubes, joined together with bonded, additive-manufactured (aka 3D-printed) titanium lugs. With no need for expensive carbon moulds, they can offer it in no fewer than 12 standard frame sizes, plus you can pay extra to customise the geometry. While earlier Atherton DH bikes were 29ers, this one’s a ‘mullet’, with a 650b rear wheel.
WHO’S IT FOR?
Downhill racers and bike park warriors who want top performance, a perfect fit and to stand out from the ‘looks like a Session’ crowd.
