Oscar, Nick and Billy from DadCamTV are always busy riding and filming, but when they need to go on their annual pilgrimage to the Alps (where they are now) there’s one vehicle that fits the bill…

“We bought the lorry just after the first of the lockdowns,” Oscar explains. “As a horsebox, it already had a small living area so transforming it into the land-yacht of our dreams was a slightly easier task. We added a few more beds and a garage area where the steeds used to live, bodged up some electrics and tied a solar panel to the roof.

“The engine had been fully rebuilt by the previous owner so when we set off to Morzine with hopes of spending the season there, we had faith it would at least only break down once we got there. Obviously we spoke too soon and before we knew it we were two days into a weekend away, parked in the middle of Dover with a lorry as dead as a doorknob! Turns out it takes more than a spun main-bearing to take out the mighty beast, though. A year and a new engine later she was back chugging away and smothering the French mountain roads in a coating of soot.

“The look of surprise on the boys’ faces when we piled out of the old girl, covered in soot, after pulling up in a Morzine car park was definitely worth all the time and effort we’d put into the project. Seeing other people stoked on our creation was one of the best feelings! Over the past three years I’ve grown to love the lorry. It’s old, battered, underpowered and unreliable but still gets us to where we want to be (eventually) and makes others smile along the way!”
