INSTALL/REMOVE FOX FLOAT X2 VOLUME SPACERS

-

Some frames have enough space for you to install or remove spacers with the shock still attached. If not, remove the shock from the bike, making sure you don’t lose any frame hardware. Give the shock a thorough clean with soap and water, and make sure it’s dry. You don’t want dirt, debris or soap suds finding their way inside.

Use a pick or small flat-head screwdriver to remove the silver retaining ring that holds the outer air sleeve in place. You may find this easier if you hold the non-adjuster eyelet of the shock (opposite end to the reservoir) and firmly pull the sleeve towards the top (in the direction of the reservoir); it’ll move no more than 1mm.

If you’ve set the sag correctly but haven’t been getting full travel from your shock, try removing spacers, one at a time, to reduce bottom-out resistance. If you reach full travel too frequently, try adding a spacer or two to increase progression. The spacers split in half and clip around the inner air can.

Firmly push the outer air sleeve so you can fully seat the split retaining ring in its groove. Pull the sleeve down to lock the ring in place. Re-inflate the shock and reattach to the bike, if necessary. Cycle the shock through 25 per cent of its travel 10 times, to equalize the positive and negative air chambers. Adjust the shock pressure if needed.

Record the shock pressure, by attaching a shock pump. (Remember, the actual air pressure will be several psi more than the pump reads, as the shock uses some air to fill the pump, so you’ll need to add 5-7psi when re-inflating.) Remove the pump, then slowly release the air from the shock, using a pick or small screwdriver to press the valve.

Line up the air sleeve keyhole with the slots on the non-adjuster eyelet and pull down to remove the sleeve. This will reveal the inner air can and factory-fitted orange volume spacers, if any are installed. Before proceeding, use the Fox website to check the maximum number of spacers that can be fitted in your shock.

Make sure the shock internals are clean and free of dirt or dust. Use a lint-free cloth if necessary to clean the outer air sleeve and inner air can. Apply Slick Honey grease around the inner edges of the air sleeve. Add 5cc of Fox Float Fluid to the sleeve and reinstall, making sure to line up the slots with the non-adjuster eyelet.
