My Kitchen Rules: Why Amy left Josh
WHY SHE FINALLY LEFT JOSH
He’s come under fire for his outrageous comments and attacks on wife Amy, but it seems My Kitchen Rules villain Josh finally got what was coming to him after filming on the hit show ended.
The 26-year-old WA fisherman exclusively tells New Idea that when their time on the series ended, they immediately split up ‘to give ourselves some distance’.
Josh says that having ‘no breathing room’ from each other during their MKR stint put the couple under strain, with Amy describing it as a ‘pressure cooker’.
He reveals that as a result, Amy moved out for a week so they could ‘clear their heads’ and start getting their marriage back on track.
‘We had our ups and downs, it came in waves... it was definitely a big challenge,’ Josh tells New Idea.
‘I think it’s because we had no breathing room from each other. Whenever we were in front of the camera, it just brought out the worst in each other – being together every single day.
‘As soon as we finished filming, we spent a week away from each other – so Amy went to a girlfriend’s house in Broome and I went off and stayed at our house and gave ourselves some distance there to kind of clear our heads.’
The most controversial character in MKR history, Josh hit headlines last week with wild allegations producers on the show ‘blackmailed’ him.
‘They [producers] were saying if I didn’t do certain things, they were going to portray that differently,’ he told Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O.
‘They were telling me how they were going to edit it unless I played ball.’
Josh also claimed producers had purposely extended his time on the show to increase drama.
‘When we cooked against Kelsey and Amanda, Amy and I were pretty much ready to go home,’ he said. ‘I can guarantee you they swung it in a way so we stayed in the competition.’
However, a number of his former competitors have hit out at the self-proclaimed ‘Seafood King’, claiming his behaviour on the show and behind the scenes was ‘disgusting’.
‘I was horrified, to be honest,’ Court tells New Idea.
‘One of my main concerns on the show was watching him and the way he spoke to Amy. I would never stand for it.’
Outspoken Wollongong mum Cyn agrees, saying: ‘Josh is a p**** of a man. Amy is downtrodden, but I also think she thinks it’s great that he’s like that.
‘I don’t know what people are like in Broome, but it’s like she’s used to it. Maybe it’s all that she’s known?’
But Amy is defensive of Josh. Discussing his ‘villain’ reputation,
AFTER SIMMERING TENSION ON THE SHOW, THE COUPLE TAKE TIME APART
she tells New Idea: ‘He’s just a very honest and upfront person, and some people see it as a personal attack.
‘He doesn’t do it to be mean, he just doesn’t like it when people are fake. He’s always been like that.’
But Josh admits that the show played havoc on their marriage, and that the stress brought out the worst in him.
‘It was a challenge, having not been married for very long,’ Josh tells New Idea.
‘And trying to work things out between each other and then being given these different challenges.
‘It was a big challenge and there were a few blow-ups in front of the cameras, and wanting to quit on a few different occasions, and looking back at it, it won’t look pretty on TV.
‘Shooting under pressure brought out the worst in me... It definitely got the better of me a couple of times.’
He also reveals that the reaction from Amy’s family – and especially her dad – weighed on his mind.
‘If I had to be worried about something, it might be Amy’s family,’ he admits.
‘But [recently] we have been down to Perth with Amy’s family – which is nice because that is our support network – having lots of family time and doing things we enjoy.’
