THE TV STAR AND HER HUSBAND SHARE THEIR UNEXPECTED NEWS

Sitting at the table of each instant restaurant, Tully thought she was nursing a food baby. However, much to the Queensland nurse’s surprise, she was, in fact, pregnant! ‘I fell pregnant halfway [through] filming the show,’ she exclusively reveals to New Idea. ‘My husband Kurt came down one weekend and poof, I was pregnant! My first reaction was: “Not now! Not now!” ‘But Kurt and I have always wanted to do this, and even though it’s a little earlier than expected, it’s a big surprise and it’s a nice feeling.’ After dealing with the initial shock, the couple – who wed in May 2015 – are thrilled they can finally reveal the secret that they are welcoming their firstborn in July. Falling pregnant during My Kitchen Rules, Tully wasn’t sure if she should share her news with the cast and crew that early on in her pregnancy. ‘I did end up telling the producers because I was really, really tired and the tiredness was killing me,’ she admits. ‘They were really good about it, they were really supportive and they really helped me. I couldn’t be more grateful. ‘Anyone who knew would make sure I had plenty of water and little snacks, and make sure I was comfortable.’ But it was the 30-year-old’s teammate Della who she thanks most for helping her through it. ‘Anything that was raw I had to stay away from,’ Tully says.

‘I’d just pretend to eat it, then shove it over to Della and she’d help me disguise everything!’

In fact, Della was also instrumental in introducing Tully to her psychologist husband in 2010.

‘Della and I went to high school together,’ Kurt explains.

‘We’re both originally from Mackay. When Tully moved to Mackay they became friends, so we were friends of friends.’

Tully adds: ‘We actually met for the first time in a psych ward. I was the nurse and he was the psychologist.’

Working in similar fields, Tully and Kurt quickly fell in love.

The blonde home cook says being apart from Kurt, 30, was the hardest part of being on MKR, especially when she realised she was pregnant.

‘I missed him a lot. He’s so good in these situations. I just wanted my husband to be with me and tell me everything was going to be OK,’ she admits.

All alone in their Brisbane home, Kurt also struggled with being separated from his wife.

‘Not being able to be there physically was a big challenge,’ he confesses.

But now, Tully and Kurt are excitedly planning for the arrival of their bundle of joy. Yet they can’t agree on how many siblings to give the bub!

‘I wanted five, but I’m happy to settle for three,’ Tully says, while Kurt interjects: ‘A small family would suit me just fine!’
