‘I CAN’T WAIT to be a PRINCESS’
THE ROYAL-TO-BE SENSATIONALLY OPENS UP TO HER CLOSE FRIEND, MAX TOPPLIN
Meghan Markle has opened up about her exciting new life as a princess for the very first time in a historic tell-all, revealing her secret hopes and fears as she prepares to walk down the aisle with Prince Harry. In this world exclusive first interview, the 36-yearold has spoken candidly about how happy and in love she is with the royal – but admits she finds her fairytale new future ‘overwhelming’. The intimate insight into Meghan’s secret world comes as the actress and Prince Harry, 32, prepare to announce their engagement to the world. Multiple palace sources tell New Idea that Meghan accepted Harry’s proposal some weeks ago and the Queen is finalising wedding plans before she makes an official announcement.
But that hasn’t held Meghan back from giving her most candid thoughts to her close friend and Suits co-star Max Topplin, who spoke to New Idea in this world exclusive.
Revealing that she doesn’t love Harry just because he’s the world’s hottest bachelor and heir to the throne, Max tells New Idea that she ‘truly cares’ and is a ‘good person’ who can’t wait to do amazing work in her new life as Harry’s bride.
But that doesn’t mean it hasn’t taken a huge adjustment period to settle into royal life.
‘I talked to her a few months ago. She was like: “This is crazy, this is so overwhelming.” She’s an actress, this isn’t what she signed up for anyway... this is like a whole new ballpark,’ Max reveals of his co-star.
‘But I know she’s really happy, I know she’s just embracing this new world for herself, and I know she loves the guy.
‘She wants to make a difference in the world. She is so wonderful when it comes to her humanitarian work. She truly does care – she’s a good person.’
Revealing how Harry and Meghan met in Toronto, where she and Max film Suits together, he says it’s uncanny to think that a chance encounter has led to this fairytale ending for Meghan.
‘It’s shocking that this all happened, and he was in Toronto and that’s where they met,’ he tells. ‘It’s just random, and now she could be a princess – what the f***!’
But Max is adamant that it couldn’t happen to a nicer person, and that Meghan has all the makings of a perfect princess.
‘She doesn’t solely live in this Hollywood bubble that people find themselves in,’ the 27-year-old actor explains.
‘On set, she’s really kind to the crew, which is obviously number one on any set. The people that are a******* to crew, you got to check yourself.
‘She’s just easy to work with, and supportive of the people she’s friends with outside of the Suits world too. She’s been so supportive of me.
‘I have a charity in Haiti that she has supported. She’s helped us along the way, with fundraising, getting the word out. She wanted to come one year to Haiti and then scheduling conflicts happened, but she’s just always been so supportive. She gets it, she has empathy for others... doing things for the right reasons.’
As well as working together, Max and Meghan share another unlikely connection – Max, in an unexpected coincidence, now lives in the actress’ childhood home in LA, where she lived with her dad for 10 years.
‘I moved in here, and she knew I was moving, and she texted me and said: “What’s your new address? I want to send you a house-warming gift,”’ he recalls of the conversation they had about his new apartment, located just behind LA’S Sunset Strip.
‘And I texted her my new address, and she was like: “That’s not funny, what are you talking about?” I said: “That’s my new address.” She’s like: “Why would you say that? I used to live there!”
‘It’s just a massive coincidence. I moved here four years ago. We met probably two years prior to that in the first season of Suits.’
Meghan then sent Max a specially made fridge magnet with a photo of them together on it. Showing it to New Idea, he said: ‘It is a photo of us from Suits, season one or season two. It’s sweet and I still have it on my fridge.’
Max says the actress has very fond memories of growing up in the apartment – in particular, a neighbour’s pet pig!
‘This is a fun story she told me: there was a little pig that used to live in the back house,’ Max says. ‘Every day when Meghan would come out of her door, he’d be waiting for her and see her off through this gate. She’d walk to school and she’d come back, and the pig would run up and greet her at the gate.
‘She liked it because she’s an animal lover. It’s sweet. I think she had a real emotional attachment to it.’
