A sudden fire saw the TV star engulfed in flames
Kerri-anne Kennerly has opened up about a frightening accident that saw her catch on fire, leading to a desperate fight to save her from the flames.
Filming a TV commercial, the showbiz legend reveals that she was standing too close to a heater when her jacket was suddenly set alight. The puffer jacket – which was completely disintegrated by the fire – was ripped from Kerri-anne’s body to stop her catching on fire, in a move that stopped the accident becoming a tragedy.
Opening up about the horrific incident, KAK reveals that if it wasn’t for the quick actions of her agent Sean Anderson the disaster could’ve ended in serious injury.
‘We were filming in a really old warehouse, no heating or air conditioning, and had a round gas heater in the room,’ KAK told the Sunday Herald Sun.
‘I was... obviously was just standing way too close [to the heater]. The next thing Sean is going: “Sniff, sniff, sniff, what is that?” And next thing he says: “You are on fire.”
‘I said: “Yeah, we are having a good day,” and he goes: “No, you are really on fire.”
‘The whole back of my jacket went into flames. It burnt straight through. It was not singed, it was burnt. He ripped the coat off, thank goodness.’
While KAK used her trademark humour to make light of the incident, onlookers say it could’ve ended very badly and it’s amazing she wasn’t hurt more seriously.
‘The jacket went up in flames so quickly, another couple of seconds and KAK’S hair could’ve caught on fire as well,’ a source tells New Idea. ‘It’s a miracle she wasn’t seriously hurt – thank God someone was on hand to save the day.’
It’s the latest dramatic incident in the 63-year-old’s life. She was dealt a serious blow last March when her husband John was left paralysed in a fall, but despite initially admitting that life after the accident was ‘just awful’, she has used her trademark fighting spirit to turn things around.
The Healthy Care vitamins ambassador, who received rave reviews for her commercial, posted a photo of herself and John celebrating their recent wedding anniversary at Sydney’s Otto restaurant.
Fans were quick to congratulate her and celebrate John’s miracle recovery, commenting: ‘John is looking so good,’ and ‘Positive thoughts, positive outcomes! You deserve so much happiness!’ NI
