THE SHOCKING TRUTH ABOUT THE BACHELOR AND HIS FEELINGS FOR LAURA
Matthew Johnson had his pick of 22 beautiful women on The Bachelor, getting to know each one in turn before confessing he had fallen in love with Laura Bryne.
But in jaw-dropping revelations set to break the jewellery designer’s heart, New Idea can exclusively confirm that the bevy of beauties vying for a rose, and indeed Laura herself, were not enough for love-rat Matty.
The 30-year-old arranged a date with a 21-year-old barista during filming, shocking
crew members and onlookers by flirting non-stop with the young woman behind Laura’s back.
Kiri Kennedy was working at Plonk Beach Cafe on Sydney’s North Shore when cameras started rolling on Laura and Matty’s first date on the reality show.
And while at the time the nursing student had no idea Matty J was set to appear on national television as the Bachelor, she is now shocked by his ‘disappointing’ behaviour and is questioning his motives for going on the show.
‘Flirting and wanting to meet up with me makes it all a bit unbelievable, don’t you think,’ Kiri tells New Idea.
It was earlier this year that the handsome Sydneysider made a move on Kiri, seemingly smitten with the woman nine years his junior, despite supposedly being on a date with Laura.
‘My co-workers pointed out to me that Matty J kept looking at me between filming and smiling,’ she says.
‘I had no make-up on and was in my work uniform so was flattered, I guess, that he even noticed me.’
But feeling confused after Laura’s arrival for their romantic date and as the lingering looks continued, Kiri says it became uncomfortable.
‘I know I wouldn’t be happy if my date flirted with someone else while he was with me,’ she says. ‘I assumed he mustn’t be into her, or any of the girls.’
But if his sleazy behaviour was not enough, Matty was so desperate for Laura to leave so he could spend time with Kiri, he sent the barista a secret message.
‘I was busy working when a person from the production team approached me and said, “Matty is with his girl at the moment and can’t talk right now, but he would like you to hang around to meet him after she leaves,” ’ explains Kiri. ‘And I was surprised because by this stage I realised he was dating a lot of women.’
After her shift ended, Kiri considered taking up his offer, admitting she was flattered and found him attractive.
But, she eventually decided his appalling behaviour on that day was unacceptable, considering he had been locking lips with another woman just moments before.
‘I decided to leave when my shift finished because in all honesty it didn’t feel right to stay,’ she says.
Then last week when Matty J poured his heart out to Laura, Kiri was left feeling even more perturbed by their awkward run in.
‘Laura was the winner, which is outrageous really,’ she says. ‘It’s hard to imagine that she is “The One”. Maybe he just went on for fame? All I know is that I would be very disappointed with him if I was in his new
girlfriend’s shoes.’ NI
