The Bachelorette: Jarrod’s ex-girlfriend reveals all

He won hearts across Australia when he scored the first kiss from Sophie Monk after making a great impression and behaving like the perfect gentleman.
But since their death-defying first date, Jarrod Woodgate, 31, has been dubbed ‘obsessive and clingy’ after his bizarre on-screen jealously.
Now his ex-girlfriend Amy has exclusively revealed to New Idea what it’s really like to date the vineyard manager and why Sophie should think very carefully before she makes her final decision.
‘He has seen something he wants and is going for it,’ Amy spills. ‘He couldn’t give a damn about fame and fortune. Everyone wants to fall in love and be happy with that special someone, and he deserves it.’
Hairdresser Amy, 32, and Jarrod met through his sister in 2010 in their home town in Victoria, and she says dating the hunky blonde was always fun, romantic and adventurous. ‘He is extremely handsome, kind-hearted, a very gentle soul with a
cracking sense of fun,’ Amy smiles. ‘I think any girl that dated Jarrod would agree that when he is with you, you feel special and very cared for.’
But with him serving in the army and based in Queensland, the distance eventually proved too much and the couple ended their relationship. While Amy was initially surprised to see him looking for love on this season’s show, she has no doubt her confident ex will make the perfect husband for Sophie.
‘He’s a man, not a boy. He has his life set up and he’s a catch,’ she says. ‘Jarrod will be an amazing, supportive and loving husband, and she’s a no-frills kind of girl who is genuinely looking for someone to spend her life with, and I know Jarrod wants the same.’
And while Sophie admitted she wants to start a family straight away, Amy says Jarrod will be thrilled.
‘Jarrod has always wanted a family – his sister has a little one and I know he’s amazing as an uncle. He’s more than ready,’ she says.
It was during his sky-high date with terrified Sophie that Jarrod came to the rescue by soothing the TV star, despite being nervous himself.
The pair later shared a romantic kiss, leaving Sophie smitten with his old-school manners and open heart.
‘I’m pleased to say he is being very true on camera, the same Jarrod that I know,’ says Amy.
But since then, it seems the more time the former military man spends with the pop star the keener he becomes, leaving many fans wondering if he is too possessive.
Amy puts his extreme competitiveness down to his ‘army background’ and Jarrod being a ‘headstrong guy’, insisting there is nothing to worry about.
And while it’s too early to tell if Jarrod will be the last man standing, Amy has a warning for Sophie when she is handing out roses.
‘I was told his break-up with an ex-fiancee was traumatic and he was heartbroken,’ she says. ‘I think initially he would take a rejection very hard. But he is a legend. She would be mad not to pick him.’
