Spring MAKE-UP FOR REAL LIFE

-

Make-up should lift your confidence and always look fresh, but it’s not always easy to nail the current trends. Celebrity make-up artist Melanie Burnicle – who’s worked with the likes of Sophie Monk and Jessica Mauboy – guides us through getting it right every time.

‘Metallics are a huge trend right now, but how do we wear them respectfully and still have fun with our spring make-up? It is possible,’ says Melanie. STEP ONE Foundation needs to be on point. Gorgeous, fresh skin exudes youthfulness. For a brilliant hydrating foundation, I like to use Revlon’s Age Defying Firming and Lifting, $39.95 (1). It has a beautiful glow to it and also has an SPF, so saves the step of applying a sunscreen under your foundation. Apply with fingers or a flat foundation brush. Remember to moisturise prior to foundation and apply powder only where you need to, such as under the eye.

STEP TWO Brows are still really on-trend, and for those of us over 35, most have had a little tweezer addiction in the early 90s. I love Maybelline New York Tattoo Brow 3 Day Peel-off

Gel-tint, $24.95 (2), which lasts for three days. Paint it on, peel it off – it’s really easy. Apply your eyebrows Friday morning. It takes 20 minutes and you’ll have fabulous brows all weekend. That’s my kind of happiness. Cha-ching! STEP THREE Metallic colours on the eye are trending – that’s blues, turquoise, mint and peach, to name a few. Avoid very glittery eyeshadows and look for a pigment that has a nice metallic sheen to it – not chunky. If you are choosing a bold pop of colour, make sure to keep a softer lip. Try Garbo & Kelly Overnight Sensation, $70 (3). Also, good lashes are never out of style and will finish

off the eye nicely. Try Napoleon Perdis Peep Show Madame Curl Curl, $39 (4). STEP FOUR If you have metallic eyes, do a simple fresh cheek to balance out the face. I love a good cheek stain for a fresh skin approach. Benefit

Cha Cha Tint, $55 (5), suits most skin tones from fair to olive. If you are fair and naturally throw pink, using a peach on the cheeks will work better than adding extra pink to your cheeks. STEP FIVE Believe it or not, metallic lips are also on-trend. Rather than opting for something so fashion

forward, try Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in Gleam, $24.95 (6), for a soft lip look. It has a pearl finish, so you will add a hint of on-trend without the feeling of being over the top.
