It’s war! Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall’s 19-year feud explodes!
Their epic 19-year feud has been legendary in showbiz circles for decades. But now Hollywood is reeling from the latest showdown between Sex And The City stars Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker, labelling it the biggest celebrity catfight ever.
Last week, Kim publicly slammed SJP in a scathing interview, labelling her as ‘toxic’ and sensationally revealing: ‘I don’t know what her problem is, I never have.’
The attack came after SJP blamed Kim and her ‘diva’ demands for canning plans for a third Sex And The City movie.
‘The answer was always no and a respectful, firm, no,’ Kim told UK personality Piers Morgan in the bombshell interview. ‘I never asked for any money, I never asked for any projects – to be thought of as some kind of diva is absolutely ridiculous.
‘The inference is from some unknown source, the inference is that I am a diva, that I’ve held up production in some way, that: “Oh now we don’t get to make our movie because of you.”
‘And now, now at this very moment it’s quite extraordinary to get any kind of negative press about something that I’ve been saying for almost a year of ‘no’, that I’m demanding or a diva.
‘And this is really where I take to task the people from Sex And The City, and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker, in that I really think she could have been nicer.’
She went on to add: ‘And usually what happens in a healthy relationship is that someone, or a transaction for a job in my business, is that someone says: “Are you available?” And you say: “Yes,” and here’s the job and you say: “Yes, but thank you very much, but I’m sort of over here right now, but thank you very much.” And that person turns to you and they say: “That’s great, good luck to you, I wish you the best.”
‘But that’s not what happened here. This feels like a toxic relationship.’
Her slamming comments came a week after SJP confirmed reports that plans for Sex And The City 3 had been shelved thanks to Kim.
‘It’s over... we’re not doing it,’ she told US TV last week. ‘I’m disappointed. We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story.
‘It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.’
And despite Kim’s statements, sources tell trusted entertainment bible People that she was negotiating for money on SATC 3 right up until a few months ago – confirming that ‘Kim killed the movie’.
The claims are backed up by co-star Willie Garson – who plays Stanford Blatch in the series – who threw major shade at Kim on Twitter last week, saying: ‘Dear fans, because I’m ‘toxic’, I’m going to negotiate a contract for six months, not come to terms, then say I never wanted to do it anyway.’
Aside from salary negotiations, it’s also believed the contents of the script – which insiders tell New Idea saw Kim’s character Samantha die from cancer – was a driving reason behind her decision not to do the film.
‘Kim just didn’t think it was a glamorous end to the movie series,’ a source tells New Idea. ‘She didn’t want the series to end with her six feet under – Samantha deserves more than that.’
Adds another insider: ‘There’s no question that Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are on Team SJP. Sarah is leading the charge, but they’re the ones who desperately need this money and are both furious with Kim.’
This is the latest chapter in the feud between 61-year-old Kim and SJP, 52, which led to the award-winning series ending thanks to Kim’s money demands.
‘I felt after six years it was time for all of us to participate in the financial windfall of Sex And The City,’ revealed Kim at the time, adding she asked to be paid $1.2 million per episode – up from a reported $445,000 – if the show was to continue. ‘When they didn’t seem keen on that, I thought it was time to move on.’
And while the cast filmed the two Sex And The City movies, relations have soured beyond repair since.
‘They all have children and I am 10 years older and since specifically the series ended, I have been spending most of my time outside of New York, so I don’t see them. The common ground that we had was the series and the series is over,’ Kim tells.
‘And another thing that’s really disappointing is that nobody ever picks up the phone and tries to contact you and say: “How you doing?” That would have been the way to handle it.’
