Delta’s big news: ‘I’ll raise my baby alone’

-

elta Goodrem has revealed plans to become a mum – with or without a man in her life. The hugely-adored singer made the shock revelation to friends recently, sharing that 2018 is the year she hopes to make her long-awaited baby dream come true. And while Delta has struggled to find lasting romance over the years, she says she’s not going to let that stop her from starting her own family.

‘Delta is sick of waiting for love to come and tap her on the shoulder,’ says a source close to The Voice star. ‘She’s had beautiful love stories with men over the years and it’s no-one’s fault that those relationships didn’t blossom into marriage or something more.

‘But Delta has decided that the time is right to have a baby and she’s tired of waiting around. She’s a strong, independent, successful woman who doesn’t need a man to make her dreams come true. She’s inspired by so many strong role models around her and sees now that she doesn’t need a ring on her finger in order to decide that the time is right to have a baby.

‘Delta said that if she fell pregnant tomorrow, she’d be more than happy to raise this baby alone. She wants 2018 to be the year she becomes a mum and is now looking into all her options to make that happen.’

At last week’s Channel Nine party, Upfronts, Delta appeared to be acting very sensibly, not drinking and leaving early – leading some to believe she is preparing for her new life.

Onlookers at the bash say the 32-year-old star was the object of many men’s affections and was seen chatting animatedly with radio and TV star Andy Lee and actor Todd Lasance.

‘Delta was constantly covering her stomach and was accompanied at all times by a minder,’ the onlooker tells New Idea. ‘She nursed the same drink all night and wasn’t seen actually drinking it at any point. She was very protected and seemed to be taking it very easy. She also left early well and truly before the party ended.

‘At one point, a mystery man was overhead being asked about receiving a kiss from Delta, and he replied: “I need to look after her.” It was very mysterious!’

Over the years, Delta’s made no secret of her desire to become a mum, speaking openly about her dream of having a baby.

And while the singer has been candid about her concerns over whether her treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2003 will affect her ability to naturally conceive, she’s still very hopeful.

‘I love kids and I’m definitely looking forward to that chapter in my life, I really am!’ she once revealed. ‘I don’t know if I’ll be able to have kids because the treatment [I had] can make you infertile. At 18, I felt I was too young to even think about having my eggs frozen.’

Delta’s clucky side is always on show in her many social media posts about her gorgeous little nephew Nate, describing his birth as ‘one of the best days of my entire life’.

With one adorable photo, the star wrote: ‘My [heart]! Nothing better than Some Early Morning snuggles and reading time with my little munchkin of a nephew Nate #lovemyfamily.’

Her determination to have a baby comes after her close friend Hugh Sheridan recently denied romance rumours between himself and The Voice star, but joked that they had discussed marriage and having babies together.

‘We see photos... and we go: “Okay, put a ring on it, have kids, let’s get this next chapter going,”’ he told The Morning Show.

‘We talked about it, I just don’t think so. I do love Delta, I love her so much, she is one of my dearest and best friends. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s anything more than that.’

While his tongue-in-cheek comments sparked excitement among fans, friends close to Delta say there’s no big romance between her and Hugh.

‘We all laughed when we heard him joking about marrying Delta and having babies, because we know that’s just his sense of humour,’ says a pal. ‘They’re just great mates – that’s it.

‘Delta’s last great romance was Seal, and with them now living separate lives at other ends of the globe, it seems unlikely they’ll reunite soon.

‘So while she was hoping to one day take things to the next level and start a family with Seal, Delta is just now worrying about herself and making plans to do it alone.

‘She knows she’s going to be an amazing mum, and will do everything to make that happen.’
