Princess-to-be Meghan gets Mary’s seal of approval

C rown Princess Mary of Denmark has told Prince Harry she can’t wait to welcome Meghan Markle into the royal fold.

Our Aussie icon had an unexpected one-on-one with Harry on his two-day trip to Copenhagen, and told him she thought his American girlfriend looked ‘absolutely stunning’.

The 33-year-old prince wasn’t due to meet with Mary, who was supposed to be in Senegal, or her husband Prince Frederik, who was in Thailand on official royal duty. Instead, he was set to meet with Queen Margrethe – who he clearly charmed, with the pair photographed in fits of laughter inside Amalienborg Palace.

But when Mary’s trip to West Africa for a conference on child marriages was cancelled amid security fears, a private meeting with Harry was scheduled.

‘Mary was delighted to meet Harry and to catch up on some royal gossip,’ a source at the royal court in Denmark reveals.

‘She gets on really well with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and talks to Kate on the phone all the time.

‘She thinks Meghan is a beautiful woman and she can’t wait to see her join the British royal family.

‘She told Harry she thought he was very lucky and Meghan would make a brilliant bride. In particular, Mary loves the humanitarian work that Meghan does, and the fact she was doing it long before she met Harry.

‘Mary feels Meghan is a kindred spirit and that she will do amazing work as Harry’s wife. She is the sort of person who wants to use her position to make a real difference, and Mary will do everything she can to help her.’

The royal insider also reveals that Mary, 45, is desperate to see Harry and Meghan tie the knot.

‘She told Harry to hurry up, and she can’t wait to come to the wedding!’ the source reveals.

‘She also gave Harry an open invitation to come back to Copenhagen as soon as possible.’

William and Kate struck up an immediate rapport with Mary and Frederik when they visited Denmark in 2011. Mary met them again as a guest of the Queen at Royal Ascot in 2016.

A Kensington Palace source said: ‘Mary talks to Kate quite often, especially about their children and how to juggle royal duties with family.

‘Harry will be able to tell Meghan that Mary is someone she can always turn to for help.

‘It’s not easy and Mary will be able to give her good tips on how to cope with the pressure.’
