The real story behind the fight between SJP and Kim Cattrall

SEX AND THE CITY STAR WILLIE GARSON WADES INTO THE SARAH JESSICA PARKER VS KIM CATTRALL ROW

-

The bizarre catfight between Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall has taken yet another twist, as one of the key cast members of the hit show breaks his silence and reveals the third movie will now never be made – with or without Kim Cattrall. Willie Garson, who plays Carrie Bradshaw’s best male friend Stanford Blatch on Sex And The City, exclusively told New Idea that he is ‘devastated not to bring this movie to light’ and that sadly whatever happens, ‘a third movie is a true long-shot at this point’. His comments came just days after the Sex And The City family truly fell apart. Following the tragic death of Kim’s 55-year-old brother Chris, who had gone missing in Canada and then was sadly found dead, fans hoped SJP and Kim might reignite their friendship. Back in October, the pair had publicly fallen out, with Kim telling Piers Morgan during a TV interview that she had refused to do the third movie because she found her relationship with SJP to be ‘toxic’ and SJP responded she was ‘heartbroken’.

However, fans reacted positively when SJP reached out to Kim on Instagram after hearing the sad news about Kim’s brother, saying: ‘Dearest Kim, my love and condolences to you and yours and Godspeed to your beloved brother. Xx.’

But any hopes that this was the end of the feud were quickly extinguished when Kim fired back: ‘Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now. Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your “nice girl” persona.’

‘That’s their prerogative, of course,’ a sad Willie, who appeared in all 10 seasons of the show and both movies, says. ‘But it’s not only heartbreaking for the cast and crew, but for the fans everywhere.’

Willie can’t hide his disappointment with the fact that Kim’s resentment towards the cast appears to run so deep.

‘It’s recently come to light that one person did not feel the friendship and shared experience the rest of us may feel,’ Willie continues. ‘A dysfunctional family has its ups and downs, but is still a family!’

In stark contrast to Kim’s very public slamming of SJP, Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbes on the show, received a warm message from Kim on the same Instagram post: ‘Cynthia, hearing your voice meant so much to me. Thank you for reaching out. Love Kim.’

Bizarrely though, Willie has nothing but fond memories of working on the show with the girls over the last two decades, but feels the SJP vs Kim war is the exact opposite of what the show stands for and will be the final nail in the coffin for Sex And The City.

‘I don’t see why a beautiful story about strong women caring for and supporting each other wouldn’t be attractive to a troubled world right now,’ Willie says. ‘That’s the “job” isn’t it? To enrich people’s lives through laughter and tears, especially when the entire world of Sex And The City is completely about one thing only – love.’

Willie may have given up on a third movie being made, but it hasn’t stopped him writing the script in his head.

‘I imagine there would be children involved, maybe a great house in Connecticut,’ Willie dreams. ‘With the show always being about love and support of each other, you’d kind of just want everyone to be at a comfortable place, together and still the closest of friends.

‘That would be lovely to see, wouldn’t it?’ he asks.

Sadly, it looks likely never to become a reality.

‘YOU ARE NOT MY FAMILY. YOU ARE NOT MY FRIEND. SO I’M WRITING TO TELL YOU ONE LAST TIME TO STOP’
