Boy George’s catty behaviour

THE CULTURE CLUB SINGER’S DIVA ANTICS HAVE LEFT HIS DEVOTEES BITTERLY DISAPPOINTED

-

Hundreds of Australian Boy George fans have been left devastated following the ’80s icon’s most recent shows Down Under with Culture Club. Furious followers of The Voice coach have banded together with a desperate plea to the Culture Club star – they say they once loved – after he failed to deliver the ‘meet and greet’, which was supposed to be part of their VIP tickets. ‘We have been left heartbroken and disappointed by someone we thought was a lovely person,’ Brisbane fan Nicky Carney tells New Idea. Nicky is one of hundreds of people who forked out almost $1000 for a VIP meet-andgreet experience with Boy George, only to be left with a sour experience – or for some no meeting at all. ‘The night was a complete disaster. We didn’t get anything like what we paid for,’ Nicky, who attended the December 2 concert in Brisbane, explains.

‘Not only did people miss their meet-and-greet session, they also lined up for well over three hours in total, and missed the first two acts that were a part of the concert.

‘Those of us who did meet Boy George, the pictures show him looking completely disgusted that he had to be there at all and were such poor quality.’

According to Nicky, a large group of VIP ticketholders was ‘herded in like cattle to be greeted by a surly, pompous Boy George.’

‘It seemed to me, he treated us with disdain and arrogance, as though we were a terrible inconvenience that he just had to endure,’ she explains. ‘We were so looking forward to meeting him and the experience turned out to be a terrible let down.’

A fellow Brisbane concertgoer, Karen, says she was told by Boy George’s management that he was feeling unwell, but then he appeared hours later for a hurried ‘meet and greet’.

‘When I met him I said I am sorry you are not feeling well,’ Karen says. ‘George became visibly upset and asked me: “Who

the f*** told you that.”

‘I think you can see in the photo how displeased he is. He then stormed out and went off at the staff about advising he was sick.’

Meanwhile, in Sydney, most fans were told the star ‘had a sore throat’ and missed out on meeting him altogether.

While some concertgoers have been offered a $200 refund by event promoter One World Entertainment, Nicky says she wants people to know about ‘the real Boy George’.

‘He came across as treating his most devoted fans with rudeness and arrogance,’ she says. ‘It was so cruel of him. He has basically taken this money and given nothing for it in return.

‘Boy George is completely refusing to do a thing about this and is ignoring us completely, even blocking people from his Twitter account,’ Nicky adds.

One fan wrote to Boy George on his Twitter account asking when will the people in Brisbane be addressed and compensated.

Boy George’s reply was: ‘I spoke and I conquered!’

Boy George’s management was contacted for comment but at the time of going to press they had not provided one.
