Mary and Fred: married again!

-

Crown Prince Frederik celebrated his 50th birthday with a lavish gala. It was an emotionally fuelled night, with his wife Crown Princess Mary showering her husband with praise and heartfelt thanks. But all is not what it seems as New Idea can sensationally reveal – the party was also a second wedding celebration!

‘It might have been his birthday, but for Fred and Mary and their four children they saw it as a chance to get married all over again,’ says a palace source.

‘Fred and Mary have always talked about renewing their vows and made the decision last week to finally take the plunge,’ the insider added.

At the gala bash, Mary, 46, gushed about when she and Frederik first met. She spoke about how lucky it was they had found each other and said she was looking forward to the rest of their lives together.

‘We dared to lose that part of our heart, which we allowed the other to hold in their hands,’ Mary said. ‘It takes courage to dare, but without daring we lose what could have been. I am so happy that you swept me off my feet and that we dared to fall for each other – not for a moment, but for life.’

As their four children weren’t there for their first wedding, the source says the couple always loved the idea of tying the knot again in front of Christian, Isabella, Vincent and Josephine.

‘They plan to renew their vows officially during a private holiday later in the year, probably during the European summer – but they decided to make Fred’s 50th birthday celebration a night to remember and treat it as their second wedding,’ the source added.

Mary initially wasn’t scheduled to speak on the night, but broke protocol at the last minute, giving Fred a beautiful and romantic ‘wedding’ speech.

‘No-one was expecting Mary to speak so intimately and emotionally from the heart, but it was just in keeping with the romance of the night for them both,’ the source said.

‘When they told the children that they were having a second wedding, there was a lot of squealing and excitement. Everyone was overjoyed – a second wedding ahead of Mary and Fred becoming king and queen will only make them even more popular with the Danish people. But more importantly, it’s just another chapter in Fred and Mary’s beautiful love story.’

The loved-up couple took to the dance floor for their ‘first dance’. Pictured kissing like newlyweds, the pair looked longingly into each other’s eyes and the love between them was clearly evident.

Frederik and Mary met at the Slip Inn in Sydney back in 2000.

‘Finding the right woman and getting married and having the children that I have now, it was something I could only dream of back then.

‘For that dream to come true is what I appreciate the very most,’ he said.
