‘MY MUM CAME TO WATCH ME STRIP’

- By Zoe Burrell

With swimming legend Lisa Curry and Ironman champion Grant Kenny for parents, it doesn’t come as any surprise that Jett Kenny has the chiselled body of an athlete. And, the hunky Ironman competitor isn’t afraid to show it off.

Jett, 23, along with several other celebrities, took to the stage to re-enact the iconic finale from the hit film, The Full Monty, stripping down to his birthday suit in the Channel Seven special, The Real Full Monty.

And Jett had two special women cheering him on from the front row. ‘My mum and my sister were front and centre,’ he tells New Idea. ‘I just said: “Just don’t look at me and you’ll be fine,” but obviously mum watched me dance.’

While most people would shudder at the thought of getting their kit off in front of their mum and sister, Jett wasn’t at all fazed.

‘They both changed me when I was a baby, so it was nothing they haven’t seen before, there’s just a few years in between,’ he laughs.

The Real Full Monty sees celebrities of all ages and professions not just get their kit off, but also join forces to raise awareness of men’s health issues and encourage Aussie men to get checked for prostate and testicular cancer.

‘It wasn’t really a health issue that I was worried about,’ he says. ‘I always thought of it as an older man’s disease, but [testicular cancer] is the most common form of cancer in men my age. If I can help get the word across to younger males then that would be good.’

But nailing the dance routine was the biggest fear for Jett until the moment he had to walk on stage for the big performance. ‘Right before the show I was absolutely s****ing myself,’ he laughs. ‘It was one of the most nerve-racking things ever.’

But his sister Morgan, who has danced at the Moulin Rouge, gave him some advice before he went on stage. ‘Her, biggest tip was, if you stuff up make it look natural and just keep going on,’ he jokes. ‘I have no dancing genes in my body, she obviously got all of them. It would have been nice if she could have shared them around.’

After his revealing performance, the handsome lifesaver will no doubt have plenty of women after him. And, the ladies are in luck because Jett is single and looking for love. ‘It’s just a matter of finding the right girl,’ he says.

Love is definitely in the air for Jett’s family, with his mum Lisa recently marrying her partner Mark Tabone. It was a very special day for Jett, who got the chance to walk his mum down the aisle. ‘Her brother was going to do it, but unfortunately he couldn’t make it from Germany, so I got the honours,’ reveals Jett.

‘It was a good experience, and it was just as special for me as it was for mum.’
