Dannii Minogue reveals why Dance Boss is the change she needed.

THE PERFORMER RETURNS TO TV IN DANCE BOSS

-

It’s been years since Dannii Minogue last graced our TV screens, but the pocket rocket is back in full force as the host of Dance Boss. The 46-year-old reveals that after quitting X Factor to be a full-time mum to Ethan, eight, she was holding out for the perfect role for her big return.

‘I just wanted to break away from everything that I’d done before and have a real change,’ she tells New Idea.

‘When this show came along and had dancing in it, it was just so exciting. It just felt like there hadn’t been anything around like this for a long time and that there would be a clear space on TV to be doing something different.’

Dannii reveals that she’s played quite a hands-on role on the series, serving as an executive producer, as well as host. ‘I wanted to have a voice within this show, I felt like this was me,’ she explains.

‘It’s a brand-new format, so you have the opportunity to put your stamp on it and make a difference to the show.’

Dannii reveals that seeing the contestants’ pure, unadulterated love of dance brings back memories of her stint on Young Talent Time.

‘I was never the best singer or dancer, but when I got chosen to go on Young Talent Time they kept saying: “Look, she’s not the best at all these things, but there’s something about her and we can’t take our eyes off her,”’ she says.

‘So, I knew I had to work on my ability of getting past not being perfect at those things, but to make it entertaining and I guess that’s the space these contestants are in.’

Dannii reveals that relating to their experience allowed her to take some of the nervous contestants under her wing.

‘The first day they walked on set, I think a few of them had moments where they thought they couldn’t do it,’ she says. ‘I had a conversation with all of them before we started filming.’

Her advice? ‘You just need to keep the enjoyment and show the love of it, and we’ll get swept up in that emotion,’ she says.

‘That was definitely what my career was based on and then over the years I got to work with lots of choreographers and perfect what I was doing. But in the beginning, I was exactly like them – thrown into it in the deep end. You just have to smile, put on these shoes and have a great time!’
