Not many kids get to grow up surrounded by camels, but that’s the way life has been for as long as Little Big Shot stars, Charlotte and Owyn, can remember. Their parents not only train camels, they also run a camel-trekking business on the east coast of Victoria and the kids love to get involved and help them run the company.

In fact, Charlotte aspires to take over the family business one day and she is getting plenty of practise in helping train the camels.

‘I help get the camels ready for camel treks,’ she tells New Idea. ‘I put hobbles on some of the camels when we need to feed them out. I also need to hoosh (sit) them down to get them ready to be packed.’

Her little brother Owyn also helps out in a very special way. ‘I give my favourite camel, Jack cuddles,’ he says.

Charlotte and Owyn are naturals with the camels and despite being much smaller than the animals, they’ve become great camel handlers, but they are even better camel riders.

‘I first started camel riding when I was five and it was really scary when they got up from sitting down – it was so high,’ admits Charlotte. ‘But now it’s not scary and it feels low to the ground.’

Owyn began riding when he was only two years old and he can’t get enough of it. ‘Camel riding is so much fun,’ he says.

Apart from running the family business, Charlotte would love to use her passion for camel trekking to help raise money for a good cause when she grows up.

‘I’d like to do a camel trek from our house to Melbourne,’ she says. ‘Because I want to raise money for the poor children.’

In the meantime she is keeping busy helping out her parents and running her own Youtube channel, Camel Girl Charlotte, where people can follow her incredible camel adventures.

Plus, Charlotte sets the record straight on a long-held myth about camels. ‘Some people think they spit, when they don’t,’ she reveals.
