hen Nick “Honey Badger” Cummins sent Cass Wood home, she was left completely heartbroken.

However, just months after filming ended it seems the pretty blonde’s dreams have finally become a reality. In a surprising twist of events, in the days that followed the show’s emotional grand finale, which was filmed in May, it’s believed Nick had a change of heart, causing him to not only end his short-lived romance with the winner, but to get back in touch with Cass.

Suspiciously, Nick is out of the country for finale week,

perhaps in a bid to avoid publicity for the show. Turning to Cass for support – worried about the public backlash he’s set to face for his decision to walk away from the show’s winner – the lovable larrikin has been plagued with guilt and begging for forgiveness, confessing he wants to work things out. “Nick has really struggled emotionally since the show ended,” says a friend to New Idea. “He didn’t expect things to end that way and wasn’t really prepared to have feelings for more than one person at a time.”

And while she initially had reservations in opening her heart again to the man who dumped her on national television, Cass decided to give him a second chance. “She understands why he did what he did,” says a friend. “Of course it’s not an ideal way to start a new relationship, but she believes in fate and thinks this whole thing will just make them stronger.”

It was during the show that fans fell in love with Cass’ honesty about falling back in love with the Wallabies player after they had enjoyed a romance prior to their TV reunion.

Never shy in sharing her feelings, Cass was often left giddy with excitement after any time she got with Nick.

Currently under strict contractual obligations with the network, the pair have had to keep their reunion a secret, but having been spotted at the same local haunts on more than one occasion by eagle-eyed fans, they realise it’s only a matter of time until they will have to go public with their news.

“Because they both live in the [Sydney] Northern Beaches it’s been easy enough to downplay their run-ins,” says a friend. “And to be honest, it’s just about at the point now where they don’t care who knows anymore, so maybe they haven’t been as careful as they could have been.”

And while they both agreed to take things slowly after the whirlwind of emotions on the reality show, friends say they are perfect for each other.

“There was so much pressure during the last few weeks of filming and it all moved too fast for Nick,” says the friend. “He had real feelings for Cass and, as crazy as it sounds, that’s why he let her go. He didn’t want to hurt her so that was the only thing he could think of to protect her at the time. Nick’s a nice guy and Cass can see that.”
