MY DAUGHTER IS GETTING MARRIED

-

Terri Irwin has announced daughter Bindi is getting married! The wife of the late Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, has revealed she’d be surprised if her daughter doesn’t tie the knot with her beau and fellow wildlife warrior Chandler Powell, who she’s been dating for nearly five years. In a chat with Us Weekly to promote the family’s new television show Crikey! It’s the Irwins, Terri, 54, said, “I really think that this is a long-term situation. I mean, Chandler is perfect as well. I’ve never heard him swear. He doesn’t drink. He’s just awesome. He’s the kind of man you hope for your daughter, so I think I’m lucky.” Chandler’s grandfather John Dicenzo agrees about their compatibility with one another. “They both really bonded because they both travel so much, and they talked about how to combine the travelling with school, something they’re both very used to. “Bindi likes writing letters just like Chandler – I guess that’s oldfashioned with email and things these days. I think they talk every day they can. They use Skype, too.” However, Bindi, 20 – who has been dating Chandler, 21, for nearly five years – has remained coy on the subject. “Four years, 10 months. We’re almost at our five-year mark. And it’s really exciting. We are taking things slow

and we’re just enjoying life and the adventure,” Bindi told People magazine.

“I’m 20, I’m loving every minute of my life and I really love this guy,” she added.

“So I just want to take my time to enjoy the now.”

And despite posting gushing tributes about her man, Bindi said she’s happy to slow things down.

“As human beings we’re always so rushed with things, so you know, ‘When are you going to get married?’, ‘When are you going to have kids?’ Every single step. And so I think we all need to just revel in the now,” she added.

But that’s not to say she doesn’t tease out the engagement plans now and again. A couple of weeks ago, Bindi took to Instagram to post the cheeky caption: “diamonds are a girl’s best friend,” with a picture of herself holding a diamond python.

She also said as soon as they do get engaged, she’ll be shouting it from the rooftops.

“I promise you I will call you the second we get engaged,” she laughed.

“It’s really exciting. And we have so many years ahead of us to enjoy the adventure of life together.”

Chandler, who is originally from Florida, moved to Australia in January this year to be with Bindi and she has spoken about how her father, who died when she was just eight years old, would have approved of her man. “It’s funny how that works. I’m lucky I have found the one – the person I want to spend all my time with,” she said previously.

“Mum and Robert and I have talked about that a lot. We all think Dad would have loved Chandler.”

Bindi also revealed that while talking to Chandler’s mother she found out that he was a huge fan of her father’s.

“What’s kind of ironic is I was talking to Chandler’s mother, and he was an avid Crocodile Hunter fan when he was little. So he used to put on the big khaki shirt and go to school when he was in first grade and pretend to be Steve.”

“He always loved animals, and, to this day, he rescues turtles off the road and that sort of thing,” Terri added. “That is very special. If you have that consideration and empathy for all living things, you’re a pretty good person.”
