THEIR ROYAL BUMP-NESSES

HOW THE STYLISH ROYAL WOMEN DRESS THEIR BUMPS

-

From unflattering smocks with big prints to subdued pretty dresses and sexy bodycon silhouettes, when it comes to pregnancy style, the royals have always set trends as well as followed them.

But no-one’s pregnancy style has been more anticipated and observed than that of the Duchess of Sussex. Would she cover up or show off her bump; keep things simple or use her pregnancy as an opportunity to experiment with different looks?

It quickly became apparent Meghan would remain as fearlessly chic, and occasionally unconventional, in her fashion choices as she had been pre-pregnancy.

The first hint of the royal baby bump came last October when Meghan and Harry embarked on their tour Down Under and announced the pregnancy. Wearing a simple figure-hugging white shift dress by Sydney designer Karen Gee for her and Harry’s first official engagement in Australia and as parents-to-be, Meghan appeared overjoyed to finally show off her tiny bump.

In the months to follow, the duchess didn’t put a sartorial foot wrong. While her preference was for simple, block-coloured outfits, as the months progressed the new royal became increasingly adventurous. She chose dresses with interesting prints and textures and she broke with royal tradition by regularly wearing her favourite black trouser suits.

Along with the beautifully tailored dresses and coats were more dramatic choices such as the black, one-shouldered, custom Givenchy show-stopper worn to the British Fashion Council’s annual Fashion Awards in December and, a few days later, the cap-sleeved floral print dress by Brock Collection that the Duchess of Sussex wore to visit residents at a nursing home.

As anticipation rises over what outfit Meghan will be wearing on the steps of the Lindo Wing when she steps out in public for the first time after giving birth, there’s absolutely no doubt it will be something special.
