Actress Tiffany Smith on playing Meghan.

Tiffany Smith admits that people have always told her she looked like Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, but never in her wildest dreams did she think that she would be portraying the royal on screen. Fast-forward to the present day and she is doing exactly that.

Tiffany is set to play the duchess in the new film Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal. Following on from Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance, this sequel will explore the dramas surrounding the royal wedding and the couple’s early days of marriage as Meghan tries to find her place in the royal family.

Since replacing Parisa Fitz-henley in the lead role, Tiffany reveals that she now gets mistaken for the duchess all the time.

“What’s funny is I get so many texts from my friends at the grocery store saying, ‘I got confused again, because I was looking at this magazine and thought it was you on the cover,’” she jokes to New Idea.

“Now I got cast in this role people are like, ‘Whenever

I see you, I think you look like Meghan.’”

Despite their resemblance, playing one of the most famous women in the world was more than a little daunting.

“I’m kind of a perfectionist and want to make sure I do a really good job no matter what the project is, but his one has some obvious added levels to it,” she says.

“I am playing someone who is alive right now and experiencing things, and someone who people do have such a connection to – and a strong one at that.”

While one would assume that Tiffany and Meghan may have met when the duchess was working in Hollywood, they never did, so Tiffany had to rely on research to become the royal.

“Most of my research was from Youtube and Instagram,” she shares. “There are so many videos that you can find of Harry and Meghan interacting … and that was the stuff that was really

important for me to get ingrained in my head so once

I got onto set it all came out naturally.”

When it comes to public opinion of Meghan, there are a lot of views out there, but Tiffany hasn’t let it influence her opinion on the royal.

“For me, I took a lot of the stuff that was coming out with a grain of salt,” she admits. “I focused on what our writer put into the script … I can only speak for myself, but they are so genuine and they are really trying to do good in the world.”

But does she think the royals will watch the film?

“If someone made a movie about me, I would have to watch it,” she laughs.

“My dream scenario is that they are watching it while the baby is sleeping.”
