A little maintenance goes a long way! Even if you visit a pet salon regularly, it can be difficult for your groomer to restore the coat to good condition if it’s very matted or dried out. Add a few simple steps to your weekly routine such as brushing the coat, using a dry shampoo or a detangler to keep the skin and coat in top condition.
Another top tip is that when it comes to choosing a shampoo, remember that human shampoo and conditioner is far too harsh for a dog’s sensitive skin. They have thinner skin, and their ph level is different meaning that human products can be up to 200 times too acidic for pets. Look for a pet shampoo that’s ph balanced and free from nasties like soap, sulphates or parabens.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD WE BATH OUR DOGS?
It depends! Every dog is unique and so are the needs of their owner. If your dog spends a lot of time in your bed or on your couch, more frequent washing is needed. However, consider that washing more than once a week can dry out your dog’s skin.
If you don’t feel your dog can make it through the week without a wash, perhaps a spritz with a deodoriser (such as Rufus & Coco 4in1 Pamper Spray) or a wash without water (like Rufus & Coco Water Free Wash) could help.

Ear cleaning is an important part of a grooming routine to prevent wax-filled ears. Meanwhile, regular clips of the coat around the face, ears, paws and bottom will help keep the coat clean and free from bacteria.
