‘MY RAFTERS REUNION!’

THE TV FAVOURITE COULDN’T WAIT TO GET BACK ON FAMILIAR TURF

- By Jackie Brygel

No-one could accuse Angus Mclaren of resting on his laurels. Since filming wrapped on the final season of Packed to the Rafters – in which Angus played the youngest Rafter, Nathan – the talented actor has notched up diverse roles in everything from Doctor Doctor to the film Hotel Mumbai, not to mention squeezing in a three-year degree at Perth’s acclaimed Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

“I’d always wanted to go to university but because of Rafters and H20 it didn’t occur – and so I went through the audition process,” he says, adding, “before I knew it, I was in WA. I’m so happy I did it.” Now the 30-yearold is back on our screens in Home and Away, reprising his role as Robbo’s (Jake Ryan) best mate, federal agent Lance. “Lance obviously has

a strong history with Robbo,” says Angus.

“Now, as the past comes back to rear its ugly head, Lance has a pretty tough job trying to keep Robbo, Jasmine (Sam Frost) and Tori (Penny Mcnamee) safe. Lance is a straight shooter and he does go to great lengths trying to protect Robbo and the people Robbo loves.”

Clearly, Angus is loving sharing scenes with Jake, Sam and Penny.

“Oh, very much so,” he says. “They bring such a great energy to the environment they work in. They’re very humble, have a great sense of humour and are very talented as well.”

Returning to the hit weeknight drama has also seen the actor reuniting with his former Rafters co-stars Zoe Ventoura (Alex) and James Stewart (Justin).

“It’s been awesome,” he says. “I’ve always admired Jimmy as a fellow and as an actor, and it’s been great to work with him again. He’s very talented and committed – and he’s a family man now as well. A sign of the times!”

And Angus reveals he’s very happily in a relationship with his girlfriend Anna Apps, whom he met at WAAPA.

“That’s probably the thing I love the most about life at the moment – just sharing my life with her,” he says with a smile.
