‘I GREW UP WITH GHOSTS!’
GHOSTBUSTER REBS DIDN’T HAVE A NORMAL CHILDHOOD...
Aghost-busting mother of two, who earns a living guiding spirits into the afterlife, had a very spooky childhood.
Rebs Baigent, 43, from Wollongong, NSW, has been seeing dead people since she was a toddler, and remembers her first encounter with a spirit was a kindly old man who visited her at night.
As she tells New Idea, her frightening gift has been a blessing and a curse.
“When I was a little girl, we lived in an old Victorian vicarage. And there was an old man who used to come and talk to me at night,” Rebs recalls.
“He used to sit on the end of my bed. Nothing creepy about it! He was harmless.” “In that same house, there was a lot of activity through the night. It would be lots of sounds and I could hear talking and hear footsteps. I actually used to sleep under my bed.”
As Rebs grew up, she began seeing more ghosts ‒ some strangers and some very familiar. Her mother Joyce almost didn’t believe her daughter’s ‘third eye’ was real, until Rebs experienced a chilling apparition.
Rebs visited her mum one day and noticed her elderly neighbour Bill waving at her.
“I said to mum, ‘When was the last time you and Bill caught up?’ And she said, ‘I think he’s busy. I haven’t seen him for the last few days’,” Rebs explains.
“I told her she needed to contact the police or try and find a contact for a family member. She asked me why, and I said, ‘Because Bill’s dead.
He was just waving at me as I walked in, but he’s in spirit, he’s not in physical form.’ And they got the police there and the family, and he’d been dead in there for a couple of days.”
The fearless medium has been guiding ghosts on for decades.
Rebs says she often walks down the street and feels the energy of recently departed spirits who are too afraid to move on.
She spent a long time being inundated with spirits wherever she went. “Sometimes you’ll have spirits that have loose ends and they want to tie them up, or have a fear of moving on because they didn’t have faith while on earth and aren’t sure where they are going,” Rebs says.
“The best thing for a spirit is to be guided on, because it gives them what I call ‘superpowers’,” Rebs says.
These ‘superpowers’, according to Rebs, are the ability to send messages from beyond the grave – whether it be a soft breeze or a butterfly.
“They come as light, or love, or as just a support,” Rebs adds. “After they’ve moved on and been cleansed, they can come back anytime and visit and be part of the family, and sometimes even come as a guardian or a spirit guide.”
Rebs now runs her own business, Soul Tribe Events, where she helps discover people’s spirit guides, past life connections and life purpose.
