LIFE IN THE BALANCE TRUE COLOURS

WILL TORI SURVIVE THE TRANSFER?

- By Jackie Brygel

This is the call Justin (James Stewart) has been waiting for – his beloved sister Tori (Penny Mcnamee), who is still in a coma after suffering a major stroke several weeks back, will be transferred from the city to Summer Bay’s Northern Districts hospital.

“This suddenly puts Justin in a world of hope,” says James. “It’s really quite heightened, as he will do absolutely anything he can for his sister.

“He was starting to feel that everyone was almost giving up on her – that they were walking away and doing everything for themselves. He really has been fighting a lot of odds.”

At the same time, Justin can’t help being extremely anxious. What if the journey back to the Bay proves too much for critically ill Tori?

“The thought of moving Tori home is a really happy one for Justin, but the actual transfer itself in an ambulance is terribly high-stakes,” confirms James.

Indeed, when Jasmine (Sam Frost) finds out about Tori’s impending transfer, the young nurse tells Robbo (Jake Ryan) that if Tori were a member of her family, she would never give her consent to the move, as it comes with a huge risk, Jasmine reveals to a now deeply concerned Robbo.

Does Jasmine have good reason to fear the worst?

Summer Bay newcomer Jade (Mia Morrissey) has a besotted Ryder (Lukas Radovich) exactly where she wants him. But Ryder is about to learn that what you see is certainly not what you get with the gorgeous backpacker!

After bringing flowers to Jade, a smitten Ryder confesses to Alf (Ray Meagher) that he would love nothing more than for the romance to become serious. He can’t get Jade off his mind.

However, Ryder is brought back to earth with a bang when he later spots Jade taking money out of the till at Salt. When he confronts her, she denies it, saying she was simply taking her tips for the day. And Ryder is inclined to believe her.

“You certainly can’t trust everything that comes out of Jade’s mouth, no matter how genuine it might seem,” says Mia.

Indeed, when Salt owner Mackenzie (Emily Weir) later discovers that money is missing and confronts her staff, Jade calmly insists she has never taken money from the till.

“Jade wants to have fun and money to spend, but she doesn’t want to have to work for it,” says Mia. “She’s gotten by with people giving her things – with people handing things to her because she’s so charming. And she’s not about to make an exception now. She doesn’t see taking the money as a big deal.”

Later, Ryder confronts Jade about the matter. And let’s just say that Jade’s reaction will leave the teen stunned! What does she do?

For all you dessert lovers out there, your prayers are about to be answered − Adriano Zumbo’s Just Desserts is back with a new season. Returning to judge all the marvellous and jaw-dropping creations alongside Adriano is British cook Rachel Khoo. She chats to New Idea about Season 2 and her secret vice …

How are you feeling to be back for another season?

It’s so exciting. I had such an amazing time the first time round. I mean, what a dream job, eating dessert, plus I get to wear amazing dresses.

What’s it like working with Adriano?

He is so easygoing. We filmed the first season two and half years ago, and we just picked it up like last time. I couldn’t have wished for a nicer presenter to work with and we chat about geeky stuff like, ‘Have you heard about this chocolate?’.

You were pregnant during the filming of both seasons, is that a coincidence?

Everyone was like, ‘We are doing another season, so Rachel is going to be pregnant’. But if we do a third season that’s not what I’m planning. It’s not like I did that on purpose [Laughs].

Did you bring your eldest child to Australia when you were filming? Yes, I brought my son with me and he loves the weather because in Sweden he has to wear a snow suit. It’s adorable, but trying to put that on in the morning is a nightmare!

Sweet tooth or savoury tooth? I would say I have more of a savoury tooth. I’m a bit of a cheeseaholic. Cheese and a glass of nice wine. It comes from my days in Paris. I had a cheese lady and I would see her every week and I would say, ‘just a little bit’ and she would cut me a bigger bit and I would always manage to eat it all.
