KATE JENKINSON PLAYS A DOCTOR SET TO SHAKE UP HUGH’S WORLD

- By Stephen Downie

What’s this, Kate Jenkinson is out of Wentworth prison? Known for playing prisoner Allie Novak in the hit Foxtel show, Kate also has a role as a doctor in Season 4 of Doctor Doctor.

“This show is entertaining and heartwarming,” the 38-year-old actress says of Doctor Doctor.

Here, Kate tells us about her new gig as Tara and gives us the gossip on Wentworth.

What’s it like joining the Doctor

Doctor family?

I’m discovering I have a career habit of joining well-established shows in the fourth season and reaping all the benefits of the hard work that others have put in. That’s what happened with Wentworth and now Doctor Doctor. I swan in like Meghan Markle and all I have to do is rock the boat, which my character does so well.

Your character, Dr Tara, is quite the bad girl, isn’t she?

She’s the mirror image of Hugh in female form and that’s why he’s repelled and attracted to her in equal measure. He sees himself in her and is not quite sure whether he’s happy with what he sees. I think she’s a mental match for Hugh, and it’s good to have healthy amount of push back around him, because he’s been getting his way for far too long.

Is there a romantic connection there?

It would be impossible for characters like Hugh and Tara to meet and for there not to be some kind of tension.

With Wentworth, at the end of last season, fans were shocked to see the face of Joan ‘The Freak’ Ferguson. What does this mean now?

With The Freak back, it’s game on. She’s the ultimate antagonist or threat. It (the upcoming season) is going to be wild, because the producers and the writers have pulled out all the stops.
