BREAKFAST on the run
HOW TO ENSURE THE FAMILY ARE STARTING THEIR DAY IN THE BEST WAY
Meal prepping has become a must-do in modern households, with the act of cooking up big batches of food and dividing it into single-serve portions a great time-saver for busy families. But why stop at dinnertime?
The morning household rush means breakfast is often an afterthought and invariably eaten hastily.
If you’re up against the clock every morning, dietitian and Mayver’s Peanut Butter ambassador Susie Burrell recommends applying the meal prep philosophy by planning to make wholesome pre-made breakfast options that can also be eaten on the run.
Some of Susie’s suggestions are Peanut Butter Brekkie Muffins and Peanut Butter and Coconut Chia Buckwheat Parfait Cups, which can be made the night before or even a few days in advance.
By pre-making your breakfast ahead of time, Susie says you give yourself a better chance of ensuring of consuming “a balanced breakfast that includes a protein, fruits or vegetables and wholegrains”.
Susie says it’s also important to give your morning meal some consideration as it plays a vital role in replenishing your body for the day ahead.
“Breakfast refuels your body and brain’s nutrient stores after fasting for eight to 12 hours overnight,” explains Susie.
“It’s the best way to fire up your metabolism, get motivated and get a head-start on meeting your body’s nutritional requirements for the day.”
